Oh, television, you've been back in my life two days and you're already making me feel like I'm falling behind. GREAT, THIS SEMESTER WILL BE AWESOME. Oh well, at least while I'm watching you I've been super happy.

Lately, in the television show of my life, a lot of RL characters who left the series years ago have suddenly popped up out of nowhere to cause drama, as though we're a) having ratings problems, and b) gearing up for a big season finale. Which is a little troubling, because I do not have time for the mayor to turn into a giant snake at my students' graduation, you guys.

Anyhow, actual television! I have been watching my stories, but haven't found time to post about it, because now they're on EVERY WEEK which takes me by surprise. I'm all, "B-But we just had a new episode seven days ago! Shouldn't there be a four month wait now?"

Can we talk about last night's HIMYM? How I Met Your Mother )

It's a good thing that at least one show is actually showing new episodes, because this 6 week hiatus of The Office is driving me crazy. Plus, I had to do the fandom newsletter ([livejournal.com profile] scranton_times) all last week by myself, because [livejournal.com profile] kyrafic was out of town, and man, I don't know how she did it alone for so long. I kind of wanted to shoot myself in the face. Though doing the newsletter DOES mean that you get an intriguing look at fandom trends -- which The Office is actually small enough to have on an all-fandom scale. I mean, back in BtVS, I had no idea what half the fandom was doing at any given time, because there were so many enclaves (I mean, the Buffy/Angel people? I have noooo idea what went on in those circles, except every once in awhile when a rumor would get out, or there'd be a war with the Spuffy contingent or whatever). But it's interesting to watch how strongly canon drives fic (only surprising in its degree, but still. The hiatus ended on a Michael/Jan note, and sure enough, there has been a FLOOD of schmoopy Michael/Jan fic -- which is pretty beautiful, and also weird. Michael Scott, perfect boyfriend y/n?), and how challenges drive fandom (you know, I LOVE Five Things fic as a genre, but apparently that is in moderation, because it's at the point right now where if I could declare a 6 month moritorium on them, I would). Fun times.

So in the last two weeks, like five members of my flist who I don't think even know each other have all seriously gotten into bandslash. What is going on? Is there something in the water? And one of these is [livejournal.com profile] imogenics, and Saturday night she and [livejournal.com profile] throughadoor fandom booty-called me at like 12:30 via lj comment to be all, "You're still awake? COME OVER. WE'LL MAKE PANCAKES." So in the course of the, I don't know, pancake eating, I accidentally let slip that I really like blink-182, to the point where I own like 5 of their albums. Which - I don't know, it was very late, Jim. For, uh, those three years. Which was like blood in the water for them, so they played me a bunch of Fall Out Boy, and you guys, SERIOUSLY. I can't think of anything more embarrassing than getting into bandslash, except maybe getting into bandslash BECAUSE YOU KIND OF LIKE THE MUSIC. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp.

Speaking of my bad taste in music, have you guys seen Avril's new video for "Girlfriend"? I still don't know how I feel about it. I feel like the old Avril maybe wouldn't like the new Avril? Also, she is weirdly Kristin Bell-esque in it. Also, weirdly Hermione-esque, if Hermione were a pop-punk singer. (I think it's the knee socks that make me think this - I don't even know, you guys. I have a problem. Many of them.) Also, I feel like the song actually sounds younger than her earlier stuff, which is weird, and sounds vaguely like something Josie and the Pussycats would sing. (Not to say that I don't like it, because oh, I do. Repeat one, my old friend. Also, how good is that movie? I haven't watched it in forever, either.)

Also, I rewatched the SVU episode where Olivia comes back the other day, and now I really miss SVU fic. LOTS.

I have been ridiculously busy lately, BUT I have a few drive-by things!

I had an excellent birthday, made even more excellent by [livejournal.com profile] kyrafic writing me my hardly-ever-written OT3, Stephen Colbert/Amy Sedaris/Paul Dinello - Farmers and Ghosts (Strangers with Candy RPF). It is SO GOOD YOU GUYS. Friendship fic that makes me so so so happy - their whole ridiculously long friendship, and Second City, and uh, I kind of love to an embarrassing degree, like, more than anything ever written. GO READ IT.

(Also, before that she wrote Shawn/Gus Psych fic, Nine True Facts About Gus and Shawn, Detectives/Boyfriends, that IS GRATE.)

I keep wanting to make an actual post about teevee, but I have 30 things I have to do right this second, SO INSTEAD. Two sentences about each of my shows:

How I Met Your Mother )

SVU )

The Office )

The Colbert Report )

Speaking of Colbert, here is my favorite picture ever taken in the history of time: )

OKAY, I HAVE TO GO, FOR REALSIES.

I don't know how this happened. There were LJ comments? And things got out of hand? And 6500 words of what is basically curtainfic later, here we are.

Title: The Funny Thing About Destiny
Fandom: The Office/How I Met Your Mother
Pairing: Jim Halpert/Ted Mosby
Rating: PG-13
Length: 6500 words
Summary: Jim and Ted get married and have babies? I'm not kidding.
AN: This fic is for [livejournal.com profile] torchthisnow, who instigated it and who now owes me some Lily/Ted. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kyrafic for the read through.

The fourth weekend in a row that Jim came into the city to hang out was the one when things started to change. )

In my continuing quest to never, ever, ever be in a normal, established fandom again, I just started [livejournal.com profile] himym_fic for How I Met Your Mother fic. I'm sure it was only the lack of a community for it that has been keeping fic from being written, right? Ha. Ha. Anyway, go join it if you like that kind of thing.

Speaking of which (specifically, last night's episode of HIMYM), here is a question [livejournal.com profile] moireach just emailed me (um. From the other room, where she's home sick. SHUT IT.):
[Poll #903732]

Steve Carell is really hot in these pictures. Um. What is happening to my changing body?

Yesterday, I very much enjoyed reading well then i like seeing you at bedtime by [livejournal.com profile] dollsome (The Office, Jim/Karen, Ryan/Kelly, Michael/Jan, Dwight/Angela, Pam/Toby).

It was 70 degrees on Saturday. In January. In Boston. Ap-apocalypse? Is that you? The wild temperature changes seem to have made the entire city sick, but surely the SHEER FORCE OF WILL I have devoted to not becoming sick will keep me well, right?
annakovsky: (himym: what up?)
I saw the movie "The Holiday" the other day with my parents, the one with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law and Kate Winslet and Jack Black. It was actually pretty enjoyable, even though it was full of over-the-top monologues and kind of ridiculous scoring. I might not have thought as much about those things, except that the movie had characters that were screenwriters and score composers, and you know, if you are going to write mediocre monologues/music, you really shouldn't draw attention to those parts of movie making IN YOUR MOVIE. It kept reminding me of how they originally scored Strangers With Candy to, like, "Schindler's List" music for the rough cut. Hahahahahahaha.

The really beautiful part of the movie, though, was that there kept being all this apparently unintended innuendo. The most egregious instance: Jude Law, to Cameron Diaz: "I know that I'm a three-for-one package. And maybe you don't really want my package. Maybe my package doesn't look so good in the light of day." Okay, are they serious with this? That's some screenwriter thinking it's hilarious to make Jude Law say that as a straight line, RIGHT? I mean, I spent my entire youth in church, there is no way that I'm the person with the dirtiest mind in any given room. (This is much how I feel about the "Wet Pam/Jim" tag at the Office fic archive. Come on, I can't be the only one who sees that!)

I finally head back home tomorrow, which is good except for how I'll have to do serious work when I get there. Vacaaaaation, don't leave meeeeeee.

If you guys like How I Met Your Mother, you should totally read Thank You by [livejournal.com profile] boundbyspells, which is Robin/Barney and just FANTASTIC. I didn't even know I wanted Robin/Barney until I read this, and now I really, really ship them.
annakovsky: (btvs: radical interpretation of the text)
Voting here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts is always kind of bizarre. In several races, my choice wasn't between Democrat and Republican, but between Democrat and the Socialist Worker's Party. Oh, Boston, never change.

Amy Sedaris is giving a reading this week, and I went to get a free ticket today, and they were all out!! :-((((((((((((( I am so sad all my mouths are frowning.

You know what is a surprisingly funny show? How I Met Your Mother. I just started watching lately, and the other week they had an episode where there was fake marriage and straight boy dating, as though it was designed to be my Kryptonite. I also like how you can pretend it's a giant crossover, where Doogie Howser and Willow Rosenberg and Nick Andopolis all hang out with the poor man's Jimmy Fallon and his girlfriend. Does anyone else watch it?

Oh, hey, if any of you guys have del.icio.us accounts with different names than your LJ names, let me know what they are!
