I missed youuuuuuu.

So I'm back from my stint off the grid! It was very relaxing and awesome, once I stopped twitching for internet access, haha. It's really crazy how far out of touch that place is -- like, here are directions to my family's cottage, leaving from Kentucky. First, drive north until you are in the middle of nowhere -- until you're off major highways and there are no more rest stops and the forest has turned to birch and pine and there's not much else besides forest. Then keep driving north for SEVEN OR EIGHT MORE HOURS. TRUE STORY.

Both my brothers could come this year, which was awesome, and the fam all watched the entire second season of Mad Men in preparation for tonight, and we played fetch with the dog in the lake, and I read really vacuous books. It rained for the first half of the time we were there, so we also played a lot of Clue and other board games in the cottage. The great thing about family cottages is that everything there ends up being super ancient, so we have this game of Careers that is definitely from the early '60s, if not before. All the little forms you fill out to play had been used I think before I was born, and then erased and re-used over and over again. And let me tell you, it's really weird to watch Mad Men and then play a game from the same era, because the game was all, "Your wife goes on a shopping spree! Lose 1/4 your cash." And "Gorgeous secretary gives you four happiness points!" It's fun, playing in character as Don Draper. And also how you can become the first human on the moon.

God, I am never going to catch up on the internet, though -- I had forgotten how exhausting RPF fandoms are, what with the constant canon and all. PLUS new episodes of JONAS, PLUS RLiv in Space. Since when did summer get so busy, television?

Also I watched almost all of Generation Kill on the car ride back, and auuuuuuuugh, IT IS SO AWESOME. Why do I like war miniseries so much? Why do I keep picking up shows? Because believe me, some watching of The Bones also went on over these last few weeks.

(Speaking of Gen Kill -- I did a brief delicious search for fic really quickly, and it looks like Nate/Brad is the big ship? Which is cool and all, but... is there much Brad/Ray? Uhhhh if anyone has recs I would not be averse.)

I've been teaching myself guitar since I moved to Kentucky and borrowed one of my brother's acoustic guitars, but I didn't take it to Canada with me and so lost all my callouses. Which means that now my hand is killing me. BUMMER. But I can still play S.O.S. even with two weeks off, so there you go, haha.

Haha, this is the lamest post -- sorry, I'm really sleep-deprived from the drive back.

Oh, and I forgot to post a bunch of [livejournal.com profile] easy_academy fic from the last however long (yeah, that Band of Jonas Brothers high school AU is... still going on, I don't know what to tell you), so for completeness, here's the stuff I wrote lately: Outtake #11: If It Kills Me (Dick/Helen, Winters/Nixon; 2904 words); Summer after Junior Year, part 1 (Winters) (Winters/Nixon, Winters/Nick; 11,882 words), part 2 (10,286 words), and part 3 (11,171 words).

Ooh, thanks so much!

WELCOME BACK. This post has reminded me that I've always meant to watch Generation Kill. (Haha, yesterday my dad was like "oh hey, did you hear that the guys who did Band of Brothers are making a new one? About Japan?" It was tough, responding at a normal pitch and volume.)

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank youuuuu! Man, you should totally watch Gen Kill and talk to me about it -- it's so weirdly like BoB and so completely unlike it at the same time. But super awesome.

HEE, civilians should not be allowed to know about things like The Pacific, it makes life SO DIFFICULT.

[identity profile] mardia.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome back from the land of dialup! I'm kind of looking forward to your reactions to RLiv in space, this show is...well, I'm going to let you watch and decide for yourself.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank youuuu! Haha, normal speed internet feels MAGICALLY INSTANTANEOUS to me now, it's kind of sad.

Aaaand I'm in the middle of the Defying Gravity pilot right now and... wow, it is everything I expected it to be and more! IT KEEPS CRACKING ME UP WITH HOW BAD IT IS, BUT RON'S SPACE UNDERWEAR MAKES IT ALL BETTER.

[identity profile] londondrowning.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome home!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM SO GLAD TO BE BACK.

[identity profile] mozarts-friend.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome baaaack! I look forward to discussing both Ron in Space and more Nick/Dick shenanigans, JSYK.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank youuuu! Hahaha, omg, A, I am watching the Ron in Space pilot right now and... wow. WOW. There are NOT A LOT OF WORDS.

(Also, godddd, yes, Nick/Dick. The feelings I am having about them are really ridiculous. IT IS POSSIBLY THE MOST RETARDED SHIP EVER AND YET IT IS SO PERFECT. Why aren't there whole communities dedicated to writing fic about them?)

[identity profile] zarahemla.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh ... [livejournal.com profile] typicrobots and I are so disappointed with Ron in Space. Let me know what you think!

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, oh man, I'm not even done with the pilot yet, but it is pretty much as bad as I expected it to be, so there's no disappointment? I'm just happy Ron's in his space underwear so much. SOMETIMES IT HELPS TO BE SHALLOW.

[identity profile] zarahemla.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] typicrobots and I agree 100%, we love Ron in his space underwear and there needs to be more of him taking off his clothes. I am hopeful for the future! Heh.

Heee, I enjoy how we both just took 2 week internet-less vacations. Long distance high five!

While I was on said vacation I tried to get my sister to watch Defying Gravity by saying "I think it's like Grey's Anatomy in space!" but she just looked at me like I was a crazy person. So I guess I should catch up on Hulu now?

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha, long distance high five for realsies! ALSO HI HI, I MISS YOUUUUUU!

Ahahahaha, your sister didn't think that sounded appealing??????? But it's the best premise EVA. You should totally catch up on Hulu, though I have to warn you, now that I've watched some of it this afternoon, it is astonishingly terrible, haha. But Ron is hot, so... double-fudge, Angela.

You make me want to check out Kentucky. It sounds cool.

I have no clue if you have seen this yet, but I don't quite know if my laughter is proportional, but I cannot. stop. laughing.
