What the frick, Keith?

Back from Canada! I had an awesome time, lots of relaxing and extended family and swimming in the lake and whatnot. And now back looking at the internet, wow, we really are in the August doldrums, eh? Sigh.

Last night my brother and I went and saw Superbad - dude, that movie was awes. After watching it, I really want to read some Seth/Evan or else Evan/his home ec partner. Haha, that cat thing? AMAZING. I laughed forever. I also wouldn't mind Officer Michaels/Officer Glasses. "You should meet women at the gym. Farmer's market. Pumpkin patch." Good times. I think I liked 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up a little better than this one, but it was still pretty great. Michael Cera, I don't even know - I want to tousle his hair/make out with him? It's confusing for me.

Speaking of Michael Cera, his appearance on Conan was delightful, as is everything about him.

Other delightful videos you might enjoy:

  • The Dan In Real Life trailer, Steve Carell's new movie coming out in the fall. FINALLY released onto the internet, thank God. Carell plays a widower with daughters and achieves previously unseen levels of hotness (my changing body, etc).

  • Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert singing a duet together from back on the Daily Show. If you were wondering what that part of our dumb band AU would look like, well, there you go. Hottt.

  • Women's Work (SPN vid by Luminosity and sisabet) - This vid might be the most effective feminist critique of a show/genre/culture I've ever seen. Really powerful stuff.

I didn't bring any of my DVDs on vacation with me, and I've unexpectedly been going through Strangers with Candy withdrawal. Who knew?

Word. Dude, I love him so much and he's just as adorable as can be. (I kind of saw him in person in May? It was pretty much the highlight of everything.)

That "Women's Work" vid -- I watched it because I saw it on your del.icio.us, and I haven't stopped thinking about it all day. This vid (http://keewick.livejournal.com/129249.html) is similar, and equally powerful -- it's a VM vid, don't know if you watched that or not.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
He seriously just seems like the nicest, yet funniest kid? I don't know how he does it, at all.

God, isn't the vid fantastic? I can't get it out of my head either. And ooh, I'd heard about the VM vid but hadn't gotten around to watching it yet - I'll have to do that tonight.

[identity profile] sundancekid.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
He was delightfully snarky when I saw him (I went to a sneak preview of Superbad) -- these girls in the audience were hitting on him really hard and he shot them down -- they called him Mike, and he said, "Oh, I didn't know we were good enough friends for you to call me that." Hee! <33333333

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I'm so jealous you got to see him! That sounds freaking amazing.

[identity profile] sundancekid.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I wrote about it here (http://sundancekid.livejournal.com/502399.html), complete with pictures! Well, picture, anyway, but he's wearing a man cardigan, so.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, thanks for the link! He's so cute and nervous looking in that picture!

[identity profile] sluggirl.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for that link- people keep referencing the VMars vid when talking about the SPN vid, but I hadn't been able to track it down yet.

OH MY DEAR SWEET LORD. How have I never seen that Steve and Stephen duet?!?!?! I was having a tragic sobby breakdown and that just seriously made my whole life worth living again.

..Perhaps I'm overdramatic.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I hadn't ever seen it either!! It totally made my whole week. Someone needs to make a really great Even Stevphen fanvid, STAT.

FRICK FRICKING FRICK FRICK

[identity profile] agate.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
HI. Have I mentioned that I am glad you are back?

Oh Michael Cera, why do you have to be so young? Note to self: CUZ it's a SIN.

I am SO GLAD to be back! I'm glad you guys didn't replace me with someone more awesome.

Hahahahaha. Oh, I don't know, this is a tricky gray area.

Here come the fricks

[identity profile] miss-bennie.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I am so HAPPY that you are back from your Canadian experience! DON'T LEAVE AGAIN.

Michael Cera, you are the proof that sometimes 19 year olds are the opposite of wretched! You give me hope! (And make my palms sweaty!)

Re: Here come the fricks

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
*CLINGS*

Heeeeeee, he's the least wretchy of all 19 year olds - thinking back to myself at that age, I have no idea how he pulls it off, seriously.

(My feelings for him are so confused! It's so wrong and yet so right. Ha.)

[identity profile] honey-wheeler.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I went to high school with that cop giving Steve/Dan a ticket!

Also, this is kind of lame, but I'm pleased that Steve Carell is usually paired up with lovely women who are his own age instead of 20-year-olds.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa, did you really? That's super weird!

I know, I love that Steve gets with women who are age appropriate. Except in Get Smart - but maybe they won't hook up him and Anne Hathaway? I HOPE?

[identity profile] vonniek.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Holy new-found hotness, Steve Carell! I always knew he was an attractive man, but, you know... it's tough to look past Michael Scott. Plus, his love interest is played by Juliet fuckin' Binoche! That's some hardcore classy right there.

"Women's Work" is an incredible piece of work. I'm fascinated by the *responses* to the vid as much as I am by the vid itself. And I second the rec for the VM vid, "Martina", for all that it made me incredibly uneasy. Another tough-to-watch vid about violence against women is [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain's Dexter vid, "West of Her Spine". I've got download links to these at my VVC review post here if you're interested in checking these out.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I know! And every once in awhile he makes even Michael attractive, and it's really unsettling, but then you see something like that, and it's like, !!! Good work, Carell.

The responses to the vid that I've read have been super interesting - I mean, it's a really powerful vid, so it makes sense that people have such strong reactions to it, but wow. I'm totally going to have to watch the VM one and the Dexter one too, now! Thanks for the recs!

I cannot wait to see Superbad, which is sort of a departure from the type of comedies I usually go for, but for Michael Cera? I will pretty much watch anything, because he is AMAZING.

And how great was his appearance on Conan? No one can awkward better than Mike. I love how I knew exactly which hotel he was talking about (living in San Diego), and I couldn't figure out if more people would go there now, or less... But I think the funniest part of the entire interview (which is damn hard to peg down) is his little interjection at the end: "It's very funny!" ILU, Cera.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Superbad is basically George Michael Bluth graduates from high school, and in being so is pretty much completely awesome. Def worth it!

Seriously, I don't know how he pulls off being so awkward and so funny all the time. That whole interview was GOLD. And hee, I know, the end! Marry me, Michael Cera!

[identity profile] ciachick711.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
OMG. Seriously, OMG. How have I lived without seeing Steve and Stephen sing a duet? That's just....wow. Also, I don't think I realized Stephen sang so bass-y. It seems like in all the other things I've heard of him, he sings in a (low) tenor range.

And Dan in Real Life kind of wins at life. And it's not even out yet! But it looks like a million times better than...Evan Almighty? (Except that's probably not hard.) But Steve wrote it (or co-wrote it) and he's like alternately playing himself and why is he so damn attractive in that trailer? I can't take it.

I may have to go see Superbad just for Michael Cera. He's adorkable.

Also, I'm not really sure about my SWC fic (well, RPF). It feels like it will never be finished...and I don't know. I would ask if I could email you about it, but I'm not sure what I'd tell you. Just keep on keeping on, I guess.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I knoooooooooooooow, right? And I think it's the lowest I've ever heard Stephen sing, omg. Um. It did things to me.

I'm so psyched for Dan In Real Life I can't even take it. The trailer was seriously the best part of Evan Almighty - I HOPE IT LIVES UP. Ah, who am I kidding, how could it not? Carell is going to be hot, that's all I need.

If you want to email about the fic, you totally should! I'm psyched you're writing it, seriously.

[identity profile] torchthisnow.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I love Michael Cera and want to tousle his hair, too? But other times, I sometimes want to slap him in the back of the head and yell "SPIT OUT THE SENTENCE ALREADY, STAMMERING STANLEY!"

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeeeeeeeee. Well, that is true.

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hi Kovsky!

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
HIYA!

[identity profile] sloanesomething.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
So I watched the Stev/phen video and laughed and laughed and laughed, and then I watched "Women's Work" and now I feel less like laughing and more like punching somebody. That video is a wake-up call, seriously.

PS. Welcome back!

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, seriously, doesn't the Women's Work vid just get to you? Most effective feminist text I've just about ever seen, seriously.

THANKS!

[identity profile] pennylane83.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I too am Superglad that you're back. (Haha don't hate me because I make bad puns) Never leave us again!!

Also, I think Officer's Glasses name was Officer Slater? The pumpkin patch thing made me laugh for 10,000 years. And, oh Michael Cera. It's actually a little scary that he's only 19 in that how is he so non-wretched and hilarious and oh man I'm 24 and saying lots of things.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I always welcome a good pun!

Slater! That's it. Haha, his first wife, who was a whore - seriously, the pumpkin patch thing might've been my favorite line. Amazing.

At least at 24 you're more age appropriate than I am! I mean, when you're 80, he'll be 75 - that's not such a big age gap. :P

[identity profile] amerella.livejournal.com 2007-08-19 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Michael Cera is some sort of comic genius or something. And at 19! It's not fair that he's so awesome.

Everyone's been talking about that SPN vid. I have to watch it, since SPN has kind of taken over my brain lately, in case you were unaware, (HA) but I'm freaked out already!

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it's like he stole the awesome from all other 19 year olds! Weird.

Yeah, the vid is super upsetting and really violent - and I imagine it's even more upsetting if you're a fan, actually. Just - it really hits you hard when all the images are piled up like that.
